Corinne Chaves & Wild Peace Tai Chi
The “wild peace” in my business name speaks to the dual aspects of yin and yang at the core of my nature: adventurous pairs with serious; humorous with knowledgeable.
I was a precocious and sometimes wild teenager who navigated a number of esoteric interests when I found a gentle touchstone in yoga and an outlet for energy in dance. Later, as a young professional, a warrior lifestyle driven by technology consulting wore down my health until I suffered constant migraines, digestive issues, debilitating back problems and an ever-growing sense of isolation from family and friends. At 36, I returned to movement as a healing tool through a disciplined daily practice of yoga to manage my back pain and stress. Even with that, l came to a place of knowing that if I continued the road warrior lifestyle, I would soon be dead.
The post-Y2K tech downturn loomed on the horizon when I began planning for life after corporate. The Friday before 9/11, I left the corporate world, only knowing that my world needed to embrace supportive, healing practices. Four days later 9/11 and its aftermath put my life in perspective.
A changed world became the backdrop for a week-long silent retreat with Kriya master Roy Eugene Davis. It marked the beginning of a deeper practice in stillness. I journeyed into the alchemical, transformative side of yoga. Eight months later I met Master Chen (Tseng, Yun Xiang.) There was an immediate connection and for the first time, I felt as though I had found a philosophy that echoed my earliest understanding of the world. I felt that I had come home, and that the wild peace within me was both tamed and unleashed.
As I searched for direction, I did a “regression” practice to gain clarity on my mission. I received three stories with the following components:
- Teaching – people desperately need these self-healing practices to reunite body and spirit.
- Self-cultivation – when we do our work, we benefit not only ourselves, but also everyone in our “web of influence.”
- Healing work – “Heal the Heart of the Earth One Heart at a Time”. The health of the earth’s heart is a mirror of our collective human hearts. It is crying out in pain. To heal the earth, we must heal our own hearts, one heart at a time.
This is the framework for my work.
